Predictions
Deadline You must make your
predictions by the time
the results show begins,
currently that time is : 3/11/2010 8:00:00 PM
Rank
DialIdol uses a weighted
score to rank predictors
rather than a busy
percentage. The idea
here is someone could
get a 100% accurate
prediction by predicting
a range as wide as is
possible (if there were
six contestants then the
predictor could predict
all six would have a 1-6
range). To combat this
DialIdol measures how
much precision you
specified in your
predictions. If you
predict that a
contestant will finish
in first place - your
precision is 1, if you
predict they will finish
as high as first and as
low as sixth (during a
week with six
contestants) then your
precision would be 0.
How Precision Is
Calculated
Precision is the weight
applied to your accuracy
percentage that
determines your score.
When you enter your
predictions you predict
a range where the
contestant will rank.
This range could span
all the way from first
place to last place and
if you predicted in this
manner it would result
in 100% accurate
predictions, 100% of the
time. This is unfair to
someone predicting a
much narrower range who
also was 100% accurate. Precision
is calcualted as follows
: 1 - ((High Range - Low
Range) / (Total
Contestants That Week -
1)) Everyone's
Predictions
There is a special
user called Everyone
that represents the
average of everyones
predictions for each
contestant. It might be
interesting to see how
well we all combine to
predict versus DialIdol
versus American Idol.
