Played my first actual jazz gig last weekend w/ my college jazz band teacher and the bass player and piano player. A local arts festival asked her to play on their jazz night and she recruited us because she felt like we were her most advanced students and have been in there multiple semesters (my 3rd and I still have 1 more to go). Was a great time, and here are some vids for your viewing pleasure. Please let me know what you think. Yes I know our equipment, my drums in particular, are not really "jazz" looking, but for my first real gig I was quite happy with the outcome.

She had us each pick a song for us to be featured on, and this was our pianist's.

And this was mine.

Also, someone please reply to my new post in the infamous "AI predictions thread" that eventually turned into the "guitarman's love life thread". I could really use some help on this situation.

I dig some Dave Brubeck "Take 5", good song choice kid, I'm downloading your performance as I type this so I'll let you know what I think a little later.

Now about your "Take 5" performance...

5/4 is a tricky time signature to master and you did a pretty good job with it on your video, especially considering your age however I too was first introduced to that song at age 17 in a high school music class.

It was nice to hear it again, thanks for posting it.

No problem Rock. It was definitely not easy to get the 5/4. I thought I could just jump in and play it since I had heard it so many times, but I messed up quite a bit at first, particularly the B section. Adding the hi-hat on beat 5 so it sound like 2+3 solved that one. Soloing wasn't the hard on that one since I just figured I'd start with copying the late great Joe Morello's opening and see where it went from there.

Check out "So What" if you haven't. It's not like the version you're probably used to hearing.

Oh and thanks for the replies in the "other" thread Check out my reply when you get a chance.

While we are at it G-Man when I recorded this audio track in 1995 in which I do everything but the drums the drummer I used was actually the son of one of my former drummers from my stage days, he was 20 like you at the time, check out his quick solo in the tail end of the song. if you wear headphones you will hear his skill level best.
