Why can I NOT warm up to Nigel? His snide comment about boys being favored on AI vs SYTYCD was a little surprising. Biting the hand that feeds you can backfire. I think they need to replace him on Idol. When people start figuring out the method to your madness, you are in trouble. SYTYCD is not listed in the Nielsen's Broadcast TV Top 20-25 overall, but when they break out the numbers for the ethnic groups, it does show up in the highest rated shows among African-Americans (5th or so). I wonder if it will ever make the Nielsen's Top 20 Broadcast TV shows? I did like the dance segments tonight but the effusive praise of guest choreographers is a little over the top. Doesn't anyone just say "good job" these days without using every superlative in the English language? I enjoy the British on American TV but they don't need to pull out all the stops on the Mother Country, elitest thing! I have worked with dancers on many occasions and they are a distinct breed. They can revel in their own unique talent.

I'm disappointed that ballroom is very unrepresented as it's my favorite. it was great to see pasha again. That was freaking amazing.

I really enjoyed the dance after that with Marco.

fave girl, so far. Ryan.
Fave boy. Don't have one yet.

I am surprised that they picked only one ballroom dancer, too! How did Mary Murphy stand for that? They picked more than enough hip hoppers, though . . .That Marco, if he is the one I am picturing, is an interesting one . . . I don't have a favorite girl or guy yet. I even tolerate the tap dancer because he brings something fresher to it. I don't like Nigel's idea about adding a tap option when the couples pick their dance styles, though. Just because it's his genre doesn't mean we all need to be subjected to it. Shows you though who has the most clout on the show: Nigel got one male tapper and four girls who can tap (that could have been a sway point in his selection process too), Lil C gets four guy hip hoppers and Mary gets one female ballroom dancer (at least we got to see Pasha again).

I still like Nigel, though, and I disagree with you, Star. Nigel should stay at AI (he is in charge there you know pretty much) and I'm glad he made the comment he did. Maybe he will change some things so that a guy isn't always favored and perhaps adjust the voting to be more similar to that on SYTYCD. I'm hopeful anyway.

[/quote] Stella, I just hate it when you disagree with me because you can always justify so well why you disagree! But Nigel can be so arrogant imo at times! No one can dispute his success and I do hope the voting changes carry over to AI. It has never been a gender issue for me on AI. Let the most popular singer win although I wish it were the best, most consistent contestant. Since young and older females (usually the majority in the South) plus the 18-49 target group are purported to be THE voters, how will it help even out the votes? I can't believe you don't like tap...as in "Tap Your Troubles Away"...Tell me why because I enjoy it when it is done well. I thought the tapper guy was great but they did move him to the rear during the group numbers. Hip Hop can just hip hop on down the bunny trail into the woods imo. Way too many in Top 20 for me. I am glad we are into the performances on SYTYCD...now I hope that vary the themes and do not do all the weird stuff..

I was completely underwhelmed with many of the routines tonight. I liked the ballroom and the tap/broadway routines, as well as the 3 large group routines at the end. The contemporary and hip-hop numbers with the smaller groups though just left a lot to be desired. I was especially surprised at Travis's routine - he is usually AMAZING but that one just didn't do it for me.

I'm really digging the tap guy, why haven't we seen him before now? Not only was he great in his routine with the broadway guy, but did you catch his skills in the group routines at the end? He did some crazy pirouettes in the top 10 guys routine and some great tumbles in the top 20 routine. He's WAY more than just a tapper for sure.

I'm also really into Ryan - she's one of the only ones whose name I can remember. She just shone through in each of the routines she was in, my eyes were completely drawn to her.

I think there is some great talent this year, but I'm just not quite sure the choreographers showed them off very well in that exhibition. I'm really digging the new set though! It's like of a hybrid of the original set and the new set from the last couple seasons.

I agree with you about Travis Wall's number because he is usually over the top amazing and that night's choreography was just so-so (still good, though). Of course the panel of "judges" gushed all over it as they did with every other choreographer, but I just had to block that out about halfway through the show.

I also agree with you about the tap dance guy and I think I see something special in him. To respond to Star (didn't want to quote your post 'cause it was too long), it's not that I don't like or appreciate tap, it's just that too much tap is, well, too much. A couple seasons ago there were about three tap guys and one tap gal and it was just too much for me. As I mentioned earlier, this one tap guy this season is interesting and I'm excited to see what he can bring to the dance party.

Hip hop is one of my least favorite, and there are maybe too many hip hop guys this season, but once in awhile there is a hip hop routine that is pretty great (like the one I left a link to above somewhere with Twitch & Alex from last year; I wonder what happened to Alex, does anyone else?). I digress . . . looks like that husband and wife hip hop choreography team (Nappy Tabs?)isn't around this year and that's okay with me because they got on my nerves sometimes.

I can't wait for the first performance/competition show this week. Then I'll get more familiar with each individual. Right now I can't quite picture which gal Ryan is, so I'm anxious to see what some of you are raving about. The young women are very talented overall and the young men seem to be as well. Should be a great show! I also am curious which all-stars they will pick for later in the season. Does anyone know?

See you all after the next show!

Nappy Tabs choreographed the hip hop round in Vegas, so I think they'll be around, although I was surprised that they didn't do any routines on this episode. I love them, their choreography is amazing! They did the Twitch/Alex routine BTW.

Oh I know, Space Cowboy, that was some fine choreography on that number and on others as well. It's just something about the two of them personally that kind of rubs me the wrong way sometimes - I don't know exactly how to explain it. If they are back and choreograph routines like the Twitch/Alex one, then I will be happy as a clam!
