Great, great classic song and Art Garfunkel has the right voice for it - sweet and romantic! Here's a link:

Hahahahahahaha . . . no, I'm not hitting on him! He is a nice looking kid and a really nice kid, but he looks about 15 don't you think? He is actually 28 and he deserves a nice young lady closer to his age and not someone who is old enough to be his mom, much older sister. . . I enjoy his company, however, and we do have a good time during my lesson(s)(we laugh a lot or maybe he is laughing at my incompetence?) but that's about it. He's on tour with one of his bands now, so I probably won't have another lesson for awhile. . .
I broke another string yesterday and I'm not confident enough to replace it myself, so I practiced anyway (it's a lot easier to press down on a string when it's not there )and will take my guitar in to the shop probably on Wednesday and get that string replaced. This time I'll really pay attention and get one of those plastic gizmos they use to turn the key thing-eys so I can do it next time. I'm reading my K.I.S.S. guitar lesson book in the meantime, and believe it or not, I'm still learning things (not the proper name for the key thing-eys, though). I actually look forward to practicing now, my fingertips are getting a little tougher and I'm anxious to actually play a tune of some kind one of these days. I'm determined! |

I enjoy his company, however, and we do have a good time during my lesson(s)(we laugh a lot or maybe he is laughing at my incompetence?) I doubt that, I just think he keeps the learning atmosphere in a positive manner which is quite professional.

So, today I finally made it down to the guitar shop - we have had blizzard conditions the past few days - and as soon as I pulled up to the curb to park, I heard some raucous guitar music coming from the direction of the store. When I walked in, there were about five guys sitting on stools jamming on a blues tune while several other people were standing around enjoying the music and munching on a bunch of Mickey D's food! Keith, the owner, grinned when he saw me and greeted me by name and then Mark, who also works there, came around and gave me a hug. So, it was at least ten guys (almost all musicians of one kind or another) and me as the only female in this tiny little shop - just the way I like it! Anyway, I came in to get my G string replaced, have a lesson on how to do it and buy one of those string peg winders. Mark and I went downstairs where it was just a little quieter and he patiently guided me through putting on a new string. I did it but I'm still not sure I could do it all by myself. No worries 'cause Mark said just come back the next couple times and he will coach me through it again (and sell me new strings at a discount if I need any ). Then, we sat down and I showed him what I had been learning and he showed me how to play some blues on my guitar (my Alvarez has such a nice tone!). I ended up staying there over an hour and it seemed like just about ten minutes. I had to get going to other places, but since Mark and I both love blues, we are going to get together for a whole afternoon sometime away from the shop when he isn't working (only works there on Fri. & Sat.) and he will be happy to help me learn to play some blues guitar just for the fun of it for him (that's right, no ulterior motives - strictly mutual enjoyment of blues guitar). And, oh yeah, no charge for either the time to put on the string or the string peg winder he threw in my guitar case (it is my birthday Monday, so I'll take it as a gift, although just being around all those talented musicians is a real gift to me!). In summary, I have to say that I love musicians! My mood and attitude and energy level shot right up while I was in the guitar shop and really made my day. I think I've found my people . . . and I can't wait to learn more and see all my new friends again.
Thanks for listening, I just had to share!

Hehe . . . I must admit that it has taken me a few days to recover from the four days of partying for my birthday. It wasn't skunkweed but beer at breakfast on Sunday, margaritas with lunch on Monday, wine with dinner on Sunday and best of all, I discovered Jim Beam Red Stag on Monday evening courtesy of the mattress salesman (yep, on my b-day I bought a Tempurpedic with an adjustable base with massage and vibration)(after the salesman wrote up my order, he took $20 out of his pocket and gave it to my friend who was with me and said to go out and have a drink on him to celebrate my b-day, so we went to the liquor store instead of a bar, then to my friend's house to enjoy the JB, and oh yeah, I had more when I got home). I'm really not much of a drinker but maybe black cherry bourbon will be my new indulgence. I guess it's never too late (or you're never to old) to be corrupted by fun and vice . . .

| You guys should check out Crystal Bowersox's album, set to drop on the 14th. Very good bluesy-folky-country-rock. I think you all will like it. I just listened to it on AOL. VERY good. |

Oh, I always read from bottom up and missed your post about your birthday, Stella! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! I hope you had a blast. Awesome guitar stories you are creating, too :) I may go take some lessons because you're inspiring me, though piano is easier for me, I think. I want to buy a left-handed key-tar 80s synth thingie.
Hope you had a great week! And PS, Black cherry bourbon? That sounds good!! |

Haven't posted on this thread for almost a month, so I just had to keep it "alive", so to speak. Not much new to report except that I have been practicing guitar but haven't had another lesson in December because my teacher, Joe, was on tour with one of his bands. I tried to learn a few new chords and to play some blues but I do better when someone shows me compared to reading about it in the book I have. Joe did post on Facebook that he got a new Rivera amplifier. Don't know which one he got, but they all look interesting. Are they vintage amps or new ones or some of each? Rock, do you know anything about these? Not that i need an amp or anything, I'm just curious. Here's the link:

p.s. All this snow and gloomy winterness is making me depressed. Paula's new dance show didn't help at all either. I thought it was just so-so, but it could have been my general mood. Did anyone else see the premiere last night? |
