Short Version Due to some data anomalies Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico should be on the bottom rows of DialIdol's predictions page - below everyone except perhaps Jason Castro.
Detailed Version Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico saw huge boosts from the West coast voting last night and that significantly changed the order they are shown in the predictions table (it did NOt effect the most important stat on that page - their DialIdol range).
This oddity appears to come from a user who seems to have detected all busy signals the whole night. Every single busy signal registered for both Robbie and Jason Yeager in California came from this user. Additionally - this same user never registered any votes. It is not my intent to include this data in DialIdol's sampling and I have taken steps to ensure that most of it will be filtered out in the future including in tonight's girls vote.
Jason Castro and all three of the Davids received similar boosts.
This year I relaxed some of the rules for accepting data such that DialIdol wasn't as strict about detecting these anomalies because last year DialIdol was too strict.
I did consider adjusting the scores of Robbie and Jason manually to push them lower in the table but I decided against this for several reasons. For one I have no way of knowing what the precise socres would be without this data. In the absence of that data I would be forced to pick an arbitrary number which would make this more about Jim Hellriegel's predictions than it would be about measuring the busy signal. Also - the effected contestants DialIdol range (the most important stat on the predictions page) remained unchanged by this anomaly. Though I may change my mind I continue to lean towards not modifying the data.
Thanks & sorry for the confusion.
Jim

JIM:
In light of your comments about the lone user above, I'm not sure my data is valid either. I registered hundreds of calls last night (...I didn't check at the end so I'm not sure of the exact number...) with NO BUSY SIGNALS - the opposite of your lone user example. All my calls counted as votes. My voting option was set the same from beginning to end; I chose "Make the following idols safe", and selected three:
(1) David Archuleta (2) David Hernandez (3) Chikezi Ezi
On the very first call where it tries to detect a busy signal, I was sittin at the PC, and did hear the busy signal. It didn't count as a busy signal for a contestant, though. How is this possible? In years past, I've used this same voting option, and have always gotten a fairly good representation of busy signals. When I checked the raw numbers display, the busy signals seemed to be there (...from the dialidol population at large...) for my three picks.
Thanks, Tim

JIM: p.s...,
I live in MS. When I checked the GeoPredictions map for my state, I see my data must have been thrown out. The bulk of my votes went to Chikezi, and as you can see, 0 votes were registered for Chikezi in MS.
I need to figure why. :-(
Thanks again, Tim

...line 2 hasn't been working through Skype either... last week I couldn't vote for Joanne, and she was my fave girl. This week I couldn't vote for Jason Castro, and he's my fave guy.
I dunno, but maybe you should check line 2? |

I don't think that's that unusual in these early rounds. I have yet to receive a busy signal for any contestant except one call for David A last night, right after the east coast feed ended. Luckily DI says my votes are being reported, even though when I launch the program it says a busy signal must be detected first before data will be sent. Hopefully it really is being sent and counted!

Skype does not allow you to vote for American Idol. Please contact them. If they fix it - DialIdol should work.

It is not possible for me to filter out that callers stats and then repost the updated predictions so - no you will not see the updated results. If I could do this I probably would have.

The first thing DialIdol does when you click the DialIdol button is call a number known to be busy (Dancing with the Stars phone number I think). If that is busy or DialIdol finds a busy signal in normal dialing your data is submitted back to DialIdol. If it is not then it will not be submitted and you will not see that it has been submitted in the status bar.

Once again this week, the totals for my state (MS) on the geopredictions display, do not appear to include my data. My vote tally for David Hernandez was over 400, for Michael Johns over 100.
The initial busy signal was detected, and in the status bar, it indicates my data was submitted. |

Turn logging on in Config/Options of DialIdol and vote tonight - then send me the log file (located in the same location as DialIdol) and I will take a look and see what is up.

Jim Unfortunately I didn't read this until this AM. I will turn logging on for next week though and send you the file then.
Thanks, Tim

Never mind, Jim. I just saw I can go to your profile and send the email from there...

Jim You will need to give me an email address so I can send the logfile as an attachment. I can't send it through the website messaging utility. I get the following error message:
Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'
Operation not Allowed
/asp/forums/inc_header_short.asp, line 46
Thanks, Tim
