I've noticed some problem tonight when my machine was dialing. Probably 4 out of 5 times tonight, my machine behaved as if it were dialing, even though the application failed to take the modem off hook. I added the 1 second to the pause between dialing parm, heck, I even added 3 second, but it didn't seem to affect the chances that the application would fail to dial, but register a vote anyway.

I don't know what language you are writing the application in, but there must be some way to more accurately detect if the modem actually comes off-hook.

Another option would be to write some code to detect if the modem is still off-hook after the appications tries to hang it up, and if not issue the command/commands to hang up the modem until it really does hang up.

The biggest problem I see with this is that the application is registering false positives for votes when it's not actually voting.

As far as settings in Windows goes, I have to say, I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of. If I can be of assistance in troubleshooting this problem, please let me know.

Hi I am brand new to this whole thing...how do you tell the difference between the program registering a vote but the modem not going on/off the hook? Also, I never registered a single busy until the last second of voting, and got a message that DialIdol was contacted, but that my data was not being submitted because it was not time to vote! Does that mean my data won't go into the DialIdol stats at all? I have a lot of questions, someone just let me know if I should start a new thread or what, thanks.

Well, the way I tell a difference is that I don't hear it dialing. I also tested this by picking up the phone when the program said it was dialing and just heard a dial tone, which tells me that the modem isn't really doing anything when the program thinks it is.

If you dial outside of the American Idol dialing times, your data won't count at all, no. Make sure your system clock is correct as this is what the program uses to determine the proper time to dial.

Perhaps the developer could add a feature to sync the system clock with the NIST Atomic clock based on what your system defined time zone is.

Being a programmer myself, I can think of a million ides for a program like this.

I had the same problem voting this week. The dialidol software was clicking along registering votes and there were no tones from the modem. I checked the extension and I had a dialtone the entire time the software was showing 3 more votes being recorded. I hope this has not been happening all along, usually I start the program and leave the room after hearing the first connection. Is there a fix in the works for this problem?

I have still not been able to find a fix for the problem. I'm still thinking this is going to require a software update or something to that affect.

I think the software might just need to do more to determine if the modem is off-hook or if the modem is hung up. I've tried various init strings for my modem and don't seem to be having any luck.

I only got 1 busy signal last night out of like 400 dial attempt for Blake and Chris. I think something is definately not right with that as when I dialed by hand, I got busy signals.
