Jessica Sanchez - And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going (J. Holliday)...
This song is what I call a "novelty" song. I saw Jennifer Holliday sing it on Broadway in DREAMGIRLS. Of course, Jennifer Hudson did it in the movie. Jessica has a big voice, but it seems so out of context for a 16 year old singer...the story, the lyrics seem to not be in line with the experience of someone that age and sometimes I think that is important to the overall effectiveness of the presentation. It is a very lengthy song, so maybe the condensed version will be okay for her. I am very interested in hearing how she interprets this song. And Etta James..pray for whomever tackles this classic. P2 in an article linked on here spoke of changing his song up somewhat but staying true to the melody...That will be no small task for him to even sing a melody line and sustain it. This song could be very bad if he is vocally challenged again. I hope he does it justice...could be interesting, as he needs a stellar performance tonight!
You posted your opinion, so I'm posting mine now... |

| Volcano (Damien Rice): Nice song, but obscure. Phillip refuses to compromise. |

Daughtry refused to compromise too and went home at .... 4th place. And Daughtry was FAN-FLIPPIN'TASTIC!! However, his song choices were a bit over-indulgent.
I could deal with a final 3 of Hollie, Jessica and Joshua. Phillip does add in more of an "interesting" factor, though.
Because ... other than the CCR song and the Damien Rice song, the other three could sing any of the other six song choices. So that makes me realize that really, Hollie, Joshua and Jessica are kind of the same style (aside from Joshua's screaming). Pop/R&B. I would want a little bit of something different for the final 3.
Somebody's got to go. Who will it be? |

JUST SAW that you were probably replying to STAR and not me Oops!!
But I still want to add what is annoying me about Randy ... He's dogging all the other vocal competition shows. It's getting old. He said The Voice was like the alternative to Idol ... where people who can't get on Idol go. I think that was sh*tty of him to say. The Voice gives those older artists a second, third, fourth or even fifth chance. Idol only seem to care about young artists they can "mold". I just think Randy could stay a little classier and keep the dissing to a minimum. |

it was sort of to both of you.. and neither of you LOL
I saw him on Leno or Fallon or maybe somewhere else recently and they asked him if there was room for all the music shows and he said he thought there was room, but also said people might be getting a little overloaded... I thought it funny because I had just recently said I might be getting a little burned out on them...
the earlier post was just about Randy not going anywhere... although I wish he would...
he's always been just a "yo dawg" worthless judge to me, but he really ticked me off last year with his treatment of Haley... in fact, I didn't really think much of Haley's singing until he started being blatantly rude to her...
I know the music industry itself is a cruel bastard... but there was no obvious reason for singling Haley out the way he did... if I'd been her dad, I would have *****-slapped him into tomorrow...

Yeah, I'm so disappointed...I thought I'd found an "in" in the last three weeks for individual song choices. ;-) |

I don't get it either. Idol is obviously slipping in the viewing numbers, but it's still near the #1 show overall (sometimes it even is...although it's been #2 or #3 overall lately).
The Voice was approaching Idol's ratings until Dancing With The Stars started...but once DWTS started up, that killed off any perceived threat that The Voice was against Idol. I think TV was down around #20 overall for the semifinals round.
IMO, last night proved once and for all that The Voice is the far better vocal show than Idol. But Idol still holds the ratings crown - by far - of any singing show. So why in the world does Randy still feel threatened?

| DWTS is one of the most popular shows. The Voice really should change days or time slots IMHO. |
