no doubt Skylar will get a deal... but I can pretty much guarantee she won't be the first to spit out a record... that's always been reserved for the winner...

Skylar will no doubt get a record deal but if she would already be signed it would be the first time in Idol history that TPTB didn't have a stranglehold on at least the top 10 and wouldn't allow anyone but the winner sign a deal before the tour was over.
Sure she is going to move to Nashville but not before the tour is over I would think, and sure she is writing songs (probably already has a bunch ready), so she is just planning ahead. I don't think Jimmy is going to let her get away to another record company without his first right of refusal and/or a cut if he let her go. These people still have to sign these oppressive contracts that sell their souls to TPTB for a certain amount of time until released, don't they? I highly doubt that Skylar is any exception.
She will be signed and perhaps do better than the winner since "country" is much more welcoming to such new artists. She's no Carrie Underwood but she can still do relatively well like other AI non-winners have done (i.e. Pickler et al).

A&R service TAXI has listings on their website for what appears to be this years Idol finalists, and here's one of them:
