Colton Dixon has admitted that he didn't like the way he was portrayed on American Idol.

The 20-year-old was voted out of the competition last week after performing Lady GaGa's 'Bad Romance' and Earth, Wind and Fire's 'September'.

Speaking to American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, Dixon admitted that he was "a little shocked" about his elimination.

"But stuff happens," he added. "And you know, you've just got to roll with it and you've got to keep on fighting."

Dixon repeated his suggestion that his choice of a Lady GaGa song could have confused his fanbase and added that he was also unhappy with how he came across on the show.

"After seeing myself come off the stage after 'September', I hated the way I looked on camera and was portrayed," he said. "And I looked over at you [Seacrest], and I was like, 'Man, TV editing is something, huh?'

"I think that was another contributing factor and that's one of the reasons I apologized on stage that night [after the results]."

Dixon explained that he felt like he "needed" to say sorry to his fans, adding: "Here I am trying to be someone that people can look up to and to start a movement, and I acted out of character and I felt like I let some people down by doing that, so I definitely needed to make it right while I still could on the show."

However, Dixon revealed that he felt "very encouraged" by the judges when he left the show, saying that he is now "ready to start writing and to put out a record".

American Idol continues Wednesday at 8/7c on Fox.

I saw something on Colton's Facebook page (that a fan posted, not Colton) about how she read that when he said "I don't care," he clarified in an interview that what he REALLY said was something along the lines of (NOTE; THIS IS NOT A DIRECT QUOTE, I'm going off my memory here) "Ouch! Well, THAT kind of stung! You know what? I don't care. I'm far more concerned with pleasing God with my songs than pleasing the judges. I do it for Him, not them."

But, I've yet to find anything similar to that anywhere.

similar to your (and others) interpretation of what he meant when he said it...

or similar to the various interpretations of what Elise meant when she said what she said...

without follow up questions... we really never know...

I listened to that one, and that's pretty much what he was saying... and while it's admirable for him to "do it all for God"... it's also not very admirable to "thumb his nose" at the judges critique...

it's similar (not the same, but similar) to HeeJun making a mockery of the show "in the name of humor"

he should have respected the show in addition to "doing it all for God"...

I don't understand how he was "disrespecting the show" on any level what so ever because he is MORE concerned with what God thinks of his performances than what the judges think.

He even said that if he would have stuck around, he would have looked for a song that was more challenging to him vocally (which is exactly what the judges said he was lacking last week). This is proof that he clearly respects the judges, and was in no way "thumbing his nose" at them. He simply meant that he was MORE concerned with pleasing God than he is with pleasing the judges.

I went and listened to the clip. He just said that the judges "weren't so keen" on the song September, but it didn't bother him, because he's never been the guy to "soar vocally." He's more about changing it up musically. He wrapped it up by saying he's "completely happy and satisfied with tonight..."

Again, I see absolutely no evidence of him "disrespecting the show," or "thumbing his nose at the judges." To be honest, I saw the exact and total opposite.

Oh god, I'm laughing my *** off! The show is a mockery of the music biz to begin with, with sham 'judges' that can't critique themselves out of a 1910 Fruitgum Company box. I have nothing but respect for those who realize what a fraud it all is and decide to speak up in one way or another.

the opinion that the show disrespects the music biz (as opposed to the opinion that it's just another arm of the music business) has nothing to do with Colton disrespecting the show...

it's fine for all of us out here to mock the judges and the show itself... but Colton was on the show... he was playing the game... and disrespected it...

how?

because rather than saying "yea.. I did suck tonight... I'm going to use their criticism to perform better so that I can be better at doing it all for God" instead, he said "that was stinging, but I don't care"

he did allude to that on the elimination show and he did say he was encouraged by the judges... but he felt he had to say he was sorry because he "acted out of character"...which you don't have to say you're sorry if you acted properly to begin with...

do I hold any of it against him? heck no... I wasn't going to listen to his music anyway..

and he did apologize... but to say he didn't do anything wrong to begin with seems to be contradicting Colton's own feelings about it

So, in other words, you're trying to say that he disrespected the show because he disagreed with the judges? Apparently if his opinion is different than the judges, that's disrespectful? You can't POSSIBLY mean THAT Roi.

He DID say he would find a song that was more challenging vocally next week (meaning tonight. ), despite the fact that he did not think he sucked. Gee, that sure seems like he was still taking their criticism and using it to perform better.

And btw, the judges never said ANYTHING about him sucking last week either. They said he sang good, it just didn't come together as well as it has other weeks. They wanted him to step it up some was all. So, using your line of reasoning, I'd say he would be disrespecting the judges if he WERE to say he sucked when no one else said he did.

So, yet again, I find no logic in saying that he was disrespecting the show or the judges. He didn't. At all.
