Colton or Jessica?
I'm gonna say Colton. |

I'm gonna say Jessica. IMO, she didn't have a bad performance that week and Colton really blew it last night. Voters can be fickle. Again, JMHO.

Jessica wasn't actually eliminated... therefore it must be Colton
but that's just my view

I think Jessica's possible elimination was more surprising. She hadn't had a bad week. It was one of those times when her fans thought she was safe.
Colton had a bad week. And while he hasn't been in the bottom 3, I would have put him in the middle of the pack. I have never considered him a front runner regardless of anything the judges say.
I would have said the front runners were Phillip, Jessica and Skylar. Now we're to the point where the middle of the pack obviously becomes the bottom and we're going to see eliminations.
I think Jessica is not as elimination proof as we once thought. I'm not sure if her fans were scared enough to keep her in till the end or if they're going to get complacent again.
I think the current front runners are Phillip and Skylar. I'm still torn on who the top 3 will be. It will depend on how they all do this week. Every performance counts as I bet they all learned this week with Colton going home.

Well because Dial Idol predicted both of those results could/would happen...neither.
But without the Dial Idol predictions, both would've been shocking. Jessica would've been more shocking.
The save often screws up someone else in the following week(s) to come.
This time it screwed Colton. He wasn't in the bottom three last week, Jessica should've been eliminated, and Colton may have been able to survive this week without Jessica there.
Instead, voters had to swarm around Jessica (to the point where it pulled her out of the bottom three). Elise & Hollie voters are already power voting for them since they know they're extremely vulnerable to go home any minute now.
That leaves someone else hung out to dry, especially if they give a subpar performance. This week, the victim of that perfect storm was Colton.

I knew the save was going to be used the week Jessica got the least amount of votes. All of America knew the save would be used that week. So, I really think that that is why both Jessica and Joshua were in the bottom 3, because America knew that if one of them got the least amount of votes, the judges would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, save them. So, in light of that, I think they spent that night voting for their favorite "iffy" contestants.
So, I fully expected someone "good" to get the least amount of votes that week. And I fully expected the judges to save them. Thus, I fully expected Jessica to be saved. Which she was.
All that being said, I'm more shocked about Colton. He was never in the bottom 3 before, and now he's gone. {sigh} And I'm still sad about it.

| I was more surprised by Colton largely because of the demographic everyone thought he was appealing to. I guess they preferred Phillip! |

I was watching the results show last night (I had to DVR it this week).
And I noticed something that I hadn't thought of that hasn't been mentioned on these threads as far as I've seen.
Jimmy made a comment about Colton's appearance and how he was moving during the first song and how it didn't work. It made me stop and think - for everyone who thought the christian vote was pulling him though, maybe that performance, which was so out of character for him and didn't fit his persona was just too much for those fans to take. They didn't like it and they withheld their vote last week. . . .
Disclaimer: I'm b*tchy and I know it. Look at this post, it'll show it. |

Both Jessica and Colton have 2-4X the number of "likes" on Facebook than any other contestant, but if you look closely you will see that the most likes for each of them come from a city in the Phillippines. As far as I know, people in the Phillippines can't get any votes in, am I right? That said, FB and Twitter stats may be interesting and one factor to consider, but by no means anything authoritative as far as predicting a winner.

that's not completely true... FB says that a city in the phillipines is the city where most of the people talking about them are from... that doesn't mean that the majority of their fans are in that city... or the majority of likes are from that city...big difference
and as for an authoritative predictive model... there is no such thing for any sample of any population

FB can't track who is talking about them unless those people have "liked" a contestant, right? Sure, that doesn't mean that the majority of "likes" come from the Phillippines but I would bet that a great number of them do. Of course, we will never know. Just another point to validate your statement that there is NO authoritative predictive model, a concept to which I wholeheartedly and without any reservation agree!

actually, you can "talk about" without "like"-ing a page...

annnnnnnnnnnd...
it appears you can be in the Phillipines and still vote if you use the facebook online voting... if your facebook account was registered in the US...
which means... if I live in the US and create an account... then I can give the username and password to my cousin in the Phillipines...

That's all fine and dandy, but in the end, all that "liking" and "talking" didn't give us a clue that Colton was going to be eliminated and that Jessica would be the lowest vote-getter the week before.
And also in the end . . . "the love you take is equal to the love you make . . . ah ah ah aaaaaaah"

again, that's due at the very least, to the inherent uncertainty in any predictive model about anything...
