Oh Boy... another season!
Last year, this info was pretty useless as a forecasting tool for who was going home, but from the very first week, it predicted Scotty as the winner... we'll see how that works this season...
thanks to Gman for the Facebook and Twitter numbers this week...
since this is the first week, I was lazy and just used last years two-week table and put the same data in for both weeks...
Philip and DeAndre were shortened since their names screw up the spacing...

Hi Roi, welcome back.
EVP's twitter followers were gained by some sort of hack program. I posted a tweet to Nigel about it in the Top 24 twitter/facebook thread. |

EVP has some pretty radical devoted fans. I think it is somewhat deserved. She can really sing but an overweight white girl going far in AI would be surprising. |

thanks hon... it's good to be back... I'm sorry to hear about your dog {{{{{{{{{{{UV}}}}}}}}}}}
yea I saw the post... I used the numbers anyway since there's nothing else for me to go on... if she leaves early, it won't matter... if she hangs around a long time, her twitter numbers will always be suspect...
maybe I should put a caveat on her twitter numbers next week |

She gained almost 20,000 fans via a hack problem and even admitted it, it's on her twitter feed and Nigel's. |

Looks like you had a great vacation from your awesome pics!
Thank you for the kind words about my dog. Yeah, I lost my third old best buddy in 14 months. As if that didn't suck bad enough, he was my first dog in my adult life and I had him since he was 8 weeks old. That dog was my world. I want to go join them right about now, it sucks so bad. :( He was the greatest dog, very loyal. Saved my life, too. He was 14 going on 15... he lived a good long life and to see him die like that today broke my heart. :(
Anyway, sorry to cry and ramble here on your thread. I do think the Twitter count is about 20,000 off, per the post. It does greatly exaggerate her ranking but what can you do. She will most likely go home in the next few weeks as her fan support is not as great as the others. And we all know three girls went home in the first three weeks last year so they guys tend to rack up the votes. Who knows, hopefully this year won't have the same exile of half the women so fast.
I think she would more accurately fall in the bottom 4 of the rankings, but not sure how you could manipulate the data with the wrong numbers. Maybe try one ranking with the numbers as they stand, and a separate with "minus 20,000" Twitter followers? Too much work, I suppose. Thanks for doing this, it's interesting to me. |

ok.. so as soon as I read your "20,000" the first time, I was already thinking of subtracting that much just to see what happens...
since the spreadsheet is really a 2-week sheet, I just put in a different number for her for the second week and it shows the effect that change has on both the twiter rank and the average rank.. so here ya go

let me first begin by saying that Erika Van Pelt's Twitter numbers haven't been officially corrected yet so I'm going to use the fudged number... looking at EVP's DialIdol numbers makes them suspect to me also... it would probably be best to just ignore her numbers LOL
now for the individual numbers...
for FB... Jessica skyrocketed... but not much else changed, although it was a pretty large increase in total votes...

Not sure if this warranted it's own thread so I figured I'd post it here. Although we are never given iTunes sales rankings during the season, I figured out a method last season for gauging popularity using iTunes. I didn't keep up with it enough to see how accurate was so we'll try again this season.
Basically I'm gonna rank them by ratings- a contestant with a 5 star average ranks higher than one with a 4 star average, and more ratings equal higher ranking.
1.Jessica-5 stars-229 ratings 2.Phillip-5 stars-147 ratings 3.Colton-5 stars-90 ratings 4.Hollie-5 stars-59 ratings 5.Skylar-5 stars-55 ratings 6.Elise-5 stars-32 ratings 7.Joshua-5 stars-25 ratings 8.DeAndre-4.5 stars-54 ratings 9.Shannon-4.5 stars-48 ratings 10.Hee Jun-4.5 stars-46 ratings 11.Erika-4.5 stars-24 ratings 12.Jermaine-3 stars-14 ratings |

yea I remember that from last year... I don't remember why I didn't add it to my rankings, but it could possibly be because it's not an absolute...
and what I mean by that is... it's debatable to me whether or not 25 ratings of 5 stars is a higher rating than 54 ratings of 4.5 stars... simple math says it's not... fuzzy math says it is...
and I'm just simply fuzzy... |

| You may be right Roi. It's definitely a good way of predicting the bottom and the top contestants but in the middle it can be a bit fuzzy. |

Do the number of ratings correspond in any way to the number of iTunes sold for any contestant? I would think that not every who buys a song takes the time to give it a rating, or do they? Can you even find out how many of any of the songs were sold? If so, maybe you can come up with some super duper fancy shmancy formula to determine another interesting albeit most likely meaningless way to rank the group (That's truly not a dig, just facing reality ).
Can you only buy the current songs from any particular week or are they always for sale throughout the season? That could make a difference, too, maybe in the area of trending. You know, if someone is slower to pick a favorite, they might go back and buy all that person's songs and if that person (or any of them) start selling more in general, then that person or persons are becoming more popular and moving up in the rankings. I have no idea how that could be tracked and evaluated but just throwing it out there.
